This is basically a question that I have had in the back of my mind for a long time now. It is that:
Do we have too much data right now? Will the abundance of the availability of the said data influence our ability to actually make some effort to reach out for it? From the Old English period, only the epic Beowulf survived, therefore it is studied with so much care today! There might have been other epics for all we know! But, today, even, my blog will survive until the internet is there and so will everyone else’s! So, when someone writes the history of our age, what do they do? Is archiving, therefore, a double-edged sword?
That is to say because everything is available at our fingertips, are we, therefore, being lazy?
I just had to share what I had in mind. Excuse my naivety peeps!

This resonates with my constant fear of being overloaded with too much data every second, everyday. It is extremely intimidating to start my day with picking up my phone because my Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Reddit feeds make me feel like I have no idea about what’s going on. Much as I try to find a balance between the FOMO that’s threatening to engulf me every instant, and the indifference that I am forced to adopt due to lack of time, I must admit that I often find myself feeling ignorant and distant. I think we need to be extremely selective about our consumption of data, and also try our best to consume consciously and carefully, whatever we do. As the amount of data expands everyday, its selection becomes more and more relevant. Of course the nature and scope of documented histories is in the process of transformation and questions of selection become as important for archivists as it does for individuals like us.
